Bringing Families Closer Together
Our Unity in the Community events are about bringing the Lake County community together to make unforgettable memories in spaces focused on fun and empowerment. Each with its own theme, these events focus on the specific needs of our community and on strengthening the bonds among local families. Past events have focused on informing families about health & wellness, celebrating holidays as a community, and more.
Many of our Unity in the Community events are also great spaces to help the community learn more about local organizations and the services they provide, connecting families to the resources they may need. We truly are stronger when we work together, and we love any opportunity to collaborate with local organizations in our collective mission of helping the community.
Free food, exciting activities, giveaways—there is so much for families to enjoy together at these events, and there's nothing we enjoy more than seeing local families come together to make unforgettable memories. At the Family First Center, we are strong believers that families should not just survive but thrive. We want to make sure families don't just have their bare necessities met but also have opportunities to enjoy new fun experiences.
Past Unity in the Community events
Spring Celebration and Scavenger Hunt
We ended March with a celebration at the People's Choice Family Fun Center. Families enjoyed a day of playing arcade games with free tokens, riding mini roller coasters, eating delicious pizza, and participating in the day's scavenger hunt. Kids also made slime using their own slime-making kits that they got to take home to keep the fun going.
Super Scientist Soar STEM Fair
Our STEM Fair was a day for coming together to explore the magical world of STEM in a fun environment. The day included mind-blowing experiments, exciting STEM activities, free food, giveaways, and lots of fun. We also had 35 young scientists from the Lions Mathematics and Science Christian Academy excited to present their science fair projects to attendees and a panel of judges.
Family Beach Day
We came together at the Waukegan Municipal Beach to enjoy some fun in the sun with our community. Families enjoyed eating hot dogs and snow cones, building sandcastles, flying kites, and more. Attendees even got to stop by the Touch-a-Truck station, checking out the Waukegan Fire Department's firetruck and learning about the work firefighters do from the firefighters themselves.
Children's Business Fair
24 young business owners joined us for our first ever Children's Business Fair, an opportunity for kids in the community to showcase their small businesses. Booths were lined up where the young entrepreneurs got to sell their products to the event's attendees. They even participated in our Small Business Competition, during which 3 small businesses won certificates and $50 cash prizes in the following categories: Highest Business Potential, Most Original Business Idea, and Best Presentation/Creativity.
