FFC was established in 2002 in response to repeated acts of violence and unrest in the community. One act of violence in particular caught the attention of then Congressman Mark Kirk. It was the murder of two young men who were killed execution style and left in the trunk of a car. Congressman Kirk was so impressed with the way Family First Center handled the aftermath of this heinous crime and brought the two families together, preventing retaliation, that he came to Dr. Evelyn Chenier to collaborate on a way to continue to stem violence in the community.
Our mission is to: “Nurture, educate, and provide opportunities within the community by placing emphasis on rebuilding the family, repairing division, and developing strategies to empower change to create a strong family support system.”
